A UNIQUE
DISPLAY OF TIME

The exclusive NX.2 timepiece combines tradition and modernity. A creative watchmaker, a renowned designer and a passionate manufacturer of NIXIE tubes turned an idea into a reality in a foundation’s manufactory. Together they have created something unique, which preserves the spirit of its time and translates it into our millennium.

Enjoy the magic of this newly interpreted design object and let yourself be mesmerized by the dimensions and the fascinating NIXIE tubes.

LEGENDARY
TUBES

The technology behind the NIXIE tube has been around since the 1920s,
but was not used industrially until the advent of digital signal processing
in the 1950s. «NIXIE» stands for «Numeric Indicator Experimental No.1».
Like a glow lamp, the characters and numbers used are electrically charged, causing the surrounding inert gas to glow. NIXIE tubes were used in measuring instruments and calculating machines, but also for digital time displays. These tubes were later superseded by other technologies and production  was discontinued.

The Czech programmer Dalibor Farny revived the technology and improved it over a number of years. He eventually brought high-quality and large-format tubes to the market.

THE STORY
OF THE NX.2

«NX» is the abbreviation for «NIXIE» and «.2» stands
for the new and unique appearance. The exclusive,
digital indoor timepiece came about as the result of the innovative spirit of the trio Stefan Kuonen, Dalibor Farny and Björn Ischi. They combined legendary components with modern technology and Swiss design to create
an extraordinary object with a breathtaking presence
and great charisma.

These limited design objects are brought to life in the manufactory of the Battenberg Foundation together
with people with special needs in the watch metropolis
of Biel-Bienne under the label «Battenberg Innovations».
The aluminum case, the electronic connections and the «corporate design» are all produced in‑house and reflect only part of the capabilities of the economically oriented institution. The elegant components are all assembled
by hand. Each timepiece is protected in a very robust
and high-quality case for transportation.

THE MINDS
BEHIND THE NX.2

Stefan Kuonen

The Swiss watchmaker is responsible for the «Watchmaking and Industry» division of the Foundation Battenberg in Biel and came up with the idea for the NX.2.
Stefan has contributed his years of experience with major watch brands around the world, as well as his entrepreneurial spirit and passion for craftsmanship and technology.

Dalibor Farny

The Czech programmer discovered the lost display technology of NIXIE tubes in 2011 and since then has worked tirelessly to bring it back to life.
In order to realize the unique NX.2 project, it was necessary to redesign the existing tubes so that they could be used upside down. This special assembly is what Dalibor uses exclusively for the NX.2.

Björn Ischi

A young, renowned Swiss designer for a wide variety of industrial sectors, Björn is always up for unusual and surprising projects.
He has succeeded in reinterpreting the flair of the 1920s and translating it into the present day with the NX.2. The timeless object embodies the spirit of the third millennium.
